Overview

As part of their operational drive to a net zero manufacturing base we were contracted by Lockheed Martin to install Electric Vehicle charging infrastructure to their UK manufacturing site near Bedford.

The Challenge

The site is based on a pre-WW2 manufacturing facility and whilst very well maintained still had challenges associated with soil contamination and asbestos removal. The team at Lockheed were keen to enable their staff to be able to charge their vehicles at work and to ensure that the infrastructure in place was sufficient for further charging bays in the future.

The Process

We worked through a number of installation options across the site given the available electrical supply and landed on a 4 bay installation with a further 10 bays of infrastructure for an easy and cost effective subsequent install. We installed a new 200A supply to a new feeder pillar supplying each of the charging points together with the relevant back office software, all civil works and bay marking.

The Result

Lockheed Martin staff can now charge their electric vehicles on site whilst Lockheed can ensure that they are covering their energy costs through the dynamic back office software installation. The infrastructure for the addtionale 10 future charging bays allows these to be fully electrified in a cost efficient manner once the Lockheed staff fleet is fully electric.
