FAQs...

How does the Solar function work on a MyEnergi Zappi?

The MyEnergi Zappi monitors the generation of your solar panels as well as the amount that is being imported or exported to the grid. If there is excess energy being generated and this is being exported to the grid then the Zappi can use this and divert it to the car. If you have an export tariff for your Solar then it’s worth checking that you won’t be better off charging the EV on a cheap overnight tariff and selling the excess solar back to the grid during the day though.

What is a Harvi? Do I have to have one installed?

A Harvi is a wireless device that the Zappi can use to monitor things like Grid load, Solar generation or Solar export. It’s a great solution if hard wiring a cable from the Zappi to the house or Solar circuit isn’t feasible. For example if you have a detached garage that already has power to it then the Harvi can be used to avoid having to dig up the driveway to install a communications cable. Most Zappi installs don’t need a Harvi though and, if one is needed, then it’s important to check for things that could block the Harvi’s signal. They particularly struggle with anything metallic e.g. Garage doors, Celotex insulation etc.

How do I stop the MyEnergi Zappi from draining my home batteries?

A home battery storage system will normally ‘see’ any EV charger as part of the household load, no different to your kettle or toaster. This means you can easily end up draining your home battery into your car. As your car’s battery is much bigger than most home battery storage systems this can quickly empty your house battery. To avoid this scenario the EV charger needs to be wired up so that the home battery can’t ‘see’ it. Normally this involves wiring the charger upstream of the home battery system. We can complete this as part of your install but it’s worth talking to us first so we can run you through exactly how it will work in practice.
